Audiobook Review: Stolen Portrait Stolen Soul (Shadow Slayers Stories Book 2)

Synopsis:

The Slayers want to live their lives in peace, but if they can’t recover a mystical painting, it could spell disaster for the entire world. Celine thought reclaiming her life and banishing a centuries-old enemy would bring her peace. She was wrong. With her centuries-old portrait containing a shard of her soul stolen, danger lurks for the Buckley household. And as her fellow Slayers search for it, Celine develops debilitating physical symptoms. Certain that retrieving the painting will cure her, two Slayers travel back in time to the moment of the painting’s creation. But dark forces lurk there, threatening to destroy not only the Slayers, but the future as well. If the Shadow Slayers can’t retrieve the painting, they’ll not only doom themselves, but perhaps all of humanity.

What I Liked:

When I last left the Buckley residence, the world was right-side-up again [You can read my review HERE.]. But that was short-lived when a charmed family painting, designed to protect the Buckley family from evil forces, vanishes. As before, our heroes are on the case. Except, this time, there are other supernatural barriers at work. Why is Celine suffering from inexplicable pain, and what’s the meaning behind her new nightmares? What exactly is going on between Michael and her married sister Celeste? And, who is safe to trust? Once again, Damian and Michael must travel back in time, this time to retrieve the painting before it’s too late.

With everything happening in the world today, this supernatural, time-traveling adventure was a fun escape that had just the right amount of suspense and surprising plot twists. I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook version of this story, narrated by Graham Mack, who was a little too good at making me cringe every time the manipulative Celeste or the ego-centric Duke spoke while lulling us into a false sense of security with his warm interpretation of Celine, Grayson, Damian, Alexander and our other heroes. Just when you think everything is going to be okay … another twist. The story ends with a cliffhanger that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.
